Thanksgiving gingerbread

Back to "warm" Utah

We flew to Minnesota on Mon., Nov. 17th and came back on Tues., Nov. 25. One day we took the train to Minneapolis to see the Christmas fantasy land at Macey's. Reece and I made a gingerbread house one day and we had Thanksgiving a few days early on Sun. Their house is great and now has some rooms with new paint! Lots of fun!

Being tagged

I read some of your "unspectacular quirks about myself" and enjoyed learning some of the little facts so here goes (at last)!
1. When I walk the 3 miles on Bountiful Blvd. I have to touch the exact turn around mark on the sidewalk before I start back.
2. After having potatoes everyday for meals on the potato farm I now prefer rice. (and no mushy mashed potatoes)
3. I was really "horse crazy" as a kid and saved my money when I was 10 to buy a donkey. (I couldn't afford a horse.
4. I love compliments--so if Carl doesn't notice the house has been cleaned or whatever--I just tell him nicely so he can pat me on the back.
5. Green was always my favorite color when I was a kid, but after a color analysis class at BYU I changed to blue as my favorite.
6. I like caffeine freediet coke!

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument

We drove to Escalante on Wed. and came back on Sat. The top picture is Spooky Slot Canyon. It got so narrow that we had to take off our backpacks! The second picture is the Calf Creek Falls at the end of the canyon for the hike we took to Lower Calf Creek. They were in Grand Staircase. The last picture is in Capitol Reef National Monument! They were really amazing places.

Halloween night!

Pumpkins and Halloween! In Decatur we grew pumpkins in the garden. The bottom picture is when Margaret and Loyal visited us in Connecticut and we went to the "pumpkin patch" to have Mike and Jim pick out their pumpkins. Hope you got lots of treats tonight!

New Zealand

Yes, This is Dave, Dan, and Rick in New Zealand a few years ago. Carl set up a reunion this week of some missionaries from his mission in New Zealand (a few years ago). We had a dinner on Sat. before the snow started. It was a real challenge to find telephone numbers and locate some of the fellows from 44 years ago! It was lots of fun. This week we are making a trip to Sacramento so hope the roads clear!

Lone Peak (add on)

Last Monday we hiked Lone Peak with Mike, Kristen and Kiaya. 4 hours up and 4 down and Carl and I didn't make it all the way to the top. You can see Lone Peak from Mike's house. It was really beautiful with the fall leaves. Carl and I got lost on the way back and I slide down on a rock so have 2 pretty good bruises. Pretty exciting!

Thurs. we went to the Twin Falls Temple and then met a missionary couple from Cambodia who live in Gooding. On Fri. we went to Boise and Sat. did some of the odds and ends jobs at Mom's. Fun to play cards in the evenings.

Elder Walquist comes home

Nancy and I met Ralph, Brenda, Tammy and Elder Walquist at the airport in S.L. today as they came from Paraguay. I was so proud os Brenda as she had never been on an airplane before! Ralph and Brenda loved meeting the members and seeing David talk and react with the members. We are going to Idaho to hear him speak on Sun.

Silverton

We left on Tues., Sept. 9th and took the Durango-Silverton train the next day. We took the train to Silverton and the bus back to Durango over the really high passes! We were heading to Denver to see Nick's football game. It rained (hard) the whole game. Fun to see Wayne and Sue, Bob and Sandra, Nick and Chris.

Friendly llama

When we were standing by the llama I kept hearing a strange sound-kind of like a cry. It took a while for me to figure out that it was the llama as his lips and mouth didn't move at all. It was like a ventriloquist. Now I see that his nostrils move just a little bit. We thought it was so funny and he kept making the sound. He had a real attituede besides!

Mama Mia

A couple of weeks ago Carl and I went to see the Mama Mia movie here in Bountiful. It is the kind of place where your feet may stick to the floor (very quaint). Anyway, as we waited for the movie to start I noticed several women sitting behind us. I liked the movie a lot! The music was fun and the scenery beaufitul. The funny thing was that as we walked out of the movie a woman came up to Carl and said in a teasing voice, "How did you get talked into coming?" We then noticed that Carl was the only man in the theatre.

How hot are you?

We went to Del Taco and I put "Del Interno"sauce on my taco by mistake and about burned a hole in my tongue! It is the new sensation. I am sure Rick would love it! Happy eating, Donna

Guangzhou Branch Reunion-July 26, 2008

Lori and William are sitting in the front with their 3 little kids. She was teaching in China in 2001 and met William (Chinese national). They got married, he joined the church and was accepted at BYU where he finished a masters degree in Computer Science. They got married in the temple and have 3 children. He worked in San Francisco for Ernst and Young for 2 years and are now going back to China. They were in Utah for a visit so we got a group of 15 adults and 10 kids together from the Guangzhou Branch of 2001. Some were BYU China Teachers and some had jobs in China. Pretty amazing!

Painting

The painters start on Tues. Which color do you pick? We had company for lunch on Sat. and some of the people didn't notice anything unusual about the paint. They had parked at the bottom of the hill and after the walk up the driveway they were all worn out!

Biking

I love this picture and have it as my wallpaper now on my computer. It is from Carl's bike trip with Dave, Mike and Rick. It inspired me to start riding my bike (last week)! On Sun. we went to church in Providence to hear Joleen and Gordon (Joyce's parents) speak before they leave for Montana as CES Missionaries.
