Buckskin Gulch in May

For a bit of humor Dan had a suit case to load his backpack.  Dave put on his hiking shoes and the bottom came loose so he borrowed some shoes from Mike.  Burke and Jim flew part way and then drove.  We camped by the trailhead to Wire Pass on Wed. night to we could get an early start on Thurs.  We hiked 13 miles on Thurs. and camped at the confluence of the Paria River.  Friday we hiked out 7 miles to White House Trailhead.  Mike drove to Utah and Dave flew.  Rick had a back problem and couldn't come.  He was the first to make his flight reservations for the trip and we missed him when they had to be canceled!  The dead mountain sheep was on the canyon floor.  The bat was in a mud puddle and we saved it by slowly pouring water over it to get off the mud.  The little mouse was at the campground and had Burke's oatmeal for breakfast which had been left outside the tent.  It was a great and long hike.

Buckskin Gulch, Lick Wash and Arizona

The car with the lips was in Kanab.  We hiked for several hours through Wire Pass to Buckskin Gulch and those are the slot canyons with the red rocks.  The Horseshoe Bend is on the Colorado River by Page, Arizona.  The last pictures are a hike in Lick Wash which is also in a canyon out of Kanab.  The picture below the Xterra shows the entrance into the slot canyon in the lower middle of the picture.

Frary Peak Hike in April 2014

Frary Peak is on Antelope Island which is a Utah State Park.  We were getting in condition for the backpacking trip.  The buffalo sculptures are by the visitors center.  The island has a small buffalo herd.  The tiny biting knats had just come out and I had about 20 bites on my forehead.  The view at the top was great.

Mother's Day 2014

For Mother's Day and my birthday Dan's family and Mike gave me the flowers in the top arrangement.  The tulips were from Jim's family.  Rick's family sent me the new scarf and blue earrings.  Dave's family provided the plane ticket so Dave could do the hike with us.

Kirra's Birthday

We celebrated Kirra's birthday at the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point.  The locomotive, Big Boy, was in Salt Lake for one night on the way to Cheyenne to be rebuilt.  It was built in 1941.

Easter 2014

Brighton, Kirra, Dan and Jonna came over for the Egg Dive at the rec. center.  There were games before the egg hunt.  Plastic eggs were in the kids pool and they put them in plastic bags and then exchanged the eggs for a treat bag.  There was still snow on the mountains.

Morro Bay to Los Angeles February 2014

This is the rock in Morro Bay.  In the morning we ran out to the rock and saw these sea otters in the water.  Carl always likes to drive on the beach near Pismo Beach.  We walked through the city of Solvang and then stopped in Santa Barbara to see the hotel where we stayed when we attended the Arco Conferences.  Fri. we went to the Los Angeles County Art Museum.  All of these old street lights are an exhibit in front of the building and I am standing in the middle of them in the picture. After the museum we had lunch at Tito's Tacos, of course!  As we drove to Covina on Sat. we found one of the WIC clinics where I worked in east L.A. and then drove through the downtown area of L.A. where Carl worked.  We saw the old neighborhood and then went to church in the area.  Our South Hills Ward is now the Walnut Creek Ward in a building in Charter Oaks and is in the Laverne Stake.
